Innovative Ways of Working
Lighthouse was given the mandate to be a bold catalyst for change and disrupt systems and bring innovative ways to look at a complex problem. We believe the solutions are within our community and that deeply engaging with our community reveals the answers. A significant initiative has been the linking of the school curriculum with industry to ensure young people understand
1. The regional economy and the businesses that operate in the region
2. The gaps and opportunities for work
3. Career pathways and the wide variety of ways to build a successful career.
Held in March 2019, the Jeftomson Careers Showcase featured a tour of high-tech orchards, packing operations and a transport distribution centre.
It was designed to showcase the fourth largest business in Greater Shepparton and highlight the job diversity and career pathways within the business. It involved 71 students and 12 teachers. Below are examples of the feedback from our industry partner and careers teachers following the showcase event. The event involved students from Wanganui Park Secondary, Mooroopna Secondary, McGuire College, Shepparton High School, Notre Dame, MCP and the Flexible Learning Centre
“This is part of the kind of experiences we want to share so that our students can build their aspirations and write their own story (journey)” “Each was able to share their own role / pathway. It personalises the experience and allow students to better connect.” - Career Teacher Feedback following Jeftomson Career Showcase event March 2019
