Our Primary Project program

The Primary Projects program supports local primary schools by working closely with staff to understand their unique challenges and co-design tailored solutions.

Our goal is to strengthen schools’ capacity to support students and families by drawing on local knowledge, community partnerships, and available resources. We prioritise connection and collaboration, recognising the value of community in fostering student wellbeing.

The program also focuses on helping students build the skills and confidence they need to transition smoothly into secondary school.

"The program has really benefitted our students and it’s a part of the year they look forward to participating in. There is great diversity in the activities for students to experience different parts of the community".

Industry Tours

Our Primary Industry Links program connects Grade 6 students with local industry professionals through tailored Primary Industry Tours across Greater Shepparton. These experiences align with student interests and the school curriculum, providing a meaningful introduction to the diverse career opportunities in our region.

Learning Through Lunch

This program gives Grade 6 students the opportunity to visit a local educational facility—such as GOTAFE—to explore further education and career pathways. As part of the experience, students also share lunch with volunteer community members who offer insights into their own career journeys, helping to broaden students’ understanding of possible future opportunities.

123 Read2Me

Through a partnership with 123 Read2Me, our Primary Project Coordinator can access quality second-hand books at no cost. Each delivery includes approximately 2,000 age-labelled books. These are often distributed through Book Fair events, run with the support of community volunteers. Students and staff are invited to select 5–10 books each to keep and enjoy.

Second Spin bikes

Through our Pit Stop program, the Primary Projects Coordinator can provide refurbished bikes to students and their family members. We also supply multiple bikes for bike safety and education programs, as well as bikes requiring repair or maintenance—ideal for hands-on learning within schools.

Hands On Learning

Lighthouse’s Pit Stop program offers hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as woodworking, bike maintenance, mechanics, and more. Designed to engage students in practical skill-building, Pit Stop can be delivered as a one-off session or run weekly across a term. We also support schools by sourcing materials and activities for in-school, hands-on learning experiences.
