Family Haven - Mooroopna

The Family Haven provides a safe space where parents and carers and  their  children are welcomed with no referral or appointment. It is located in the same premises as the Mooroopna Anglican Church at 15-17 Young Street, Mooroopna (the old SPC canteen) and is open Tuesday to Thursday from 10am - 2pm.

Parents and children can relax, engage with staff and volunteers, share a meal and connect with other parents.  The focus is on play and fun.  The Family Haven also offers transport and is able to pick families and children up and drop them home.

The first 1000 days

Investing in the first 1000 days of life has been proven to contribute to long-term positive life outcomes, including improved employment prospects, health and wellbeing, and social outcomes such as reduced reliance on social services and less interaction with the justice system.

Volunteers welcome

Our volunteers are vital to the success of the Family Haven and assist with providing a supportive and nurturing culture. If you have a spare 3 hours a week and enjoy interacting with young families please feel free to connect with our Family Haven Coordinator Courtney Wilson via the details below.

How the Family Haven works

Using a strengths-based approach, the Family Haven builds protective factors of individuals and families to prevent future acute or emergency medical and social services engagement. Protective and resilience-building factors for mothers and children include creating positive social connections, targeted connections with specialised services, improving the knowledge of caregivers about parenting and child development, and creating socially and emotionally competent children and caregivers.

Please note: The Family Haven requires parents and carers to supervise their own children at all times.

The Family Haven is not staffed to cater for child care.
