Community Movement

Transforming systems focuses on changing the objectives pursue - doing the right thing and then doing things right.

“In the beginning Lighthouse fought back against well-meaning government and philanthropic bodies who had no skin in the game in Shepparton and could only offer a helicopter view of our problems without offering any real solution. So, Lighthouse had to find their own solutions for Greater Shepparton.” - Community member.

Lighthouse focuses on transformational leadership – this has seen the establishment of a government sector Lighthouse Advisory Group that looks at issues across Local Government Areas including health, justice, education, and police.

This initiative has brought  the regional directors of key government departments and local government together with Lighthouse to review data and  the findings of community consultation, consider issues impacting on people in the region including changes to government policy and focus, emergency events and new initiatives.

45 Collaborative Leadership Table members and 11 Youth Table members – play an important role in identifying and supporting emerging priorities aligned to our vision and common agenda. Lighthouse sees itself as an innovation lab, a backbone that motivates and inspires the community to have all the information to make decisions about the children and their outcomes. Table members represent the whole of community with a diverse range of skills and interests coming together because they have a passion for the outcomes for children. This is not about their job, it’s because they care.

The role of the table members is to advocate for our children, use their networks to connect the community and businesses with our young people and provide hands on support with activities like fundraising and provision of  volunteers.

Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional custodians of the Shepparton region on whose lands we are located, the Yorta Yorta peoples and their Elders past, present and emerging. Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project recognises, respects and supports all community members regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ability, or age.
