Lighthouse is delighted to announce that we are a registered charity under the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme!
What does this mean?
With the recent introduction of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme, you can now receive a 10-cent refund for every eligible drink container you deposit at your local refund point. If your can, bottle, or carton has a 10-cent mark on the label, simply head to your nearest refund point to deposit your item/s. Once there, you can keep your refund, deposit it in your bank, or donate it to your favourite charity, such as Lighthouse!
If you choose to donate your refund, simply download the app: https://www.visy.com.au/cds-vic-north-app and nominate where your money goes.
The app lists lots of great charities, and we would be grateful to community members who select Lighthouse or any other local charity that sees funds return to our community.
At Lighthouse we love programs that deliver great outcomes and this one ticks a lot of boxes, creating local jobs, looking after our environment and supporting community organisations. What a great initiative!
Locally, containers can be deposited at Foott Waste depots, which can be found at the following locations:
SHEPPARTON - 10 Carroll Road, Shepparton East
BENALLA - 22 Irwin Road
YARRAWONGA - 97 Benalla-Yarrawonga Road
Opening hours:
Monday-Friday: 9 am to 5 pm
Saturday: 8 am to 4 pm
Sunday: Closed
Tips for our community members:
Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard (cartons) drink containers between 150 mL and 3 litres are eligible for a refund. Look for the 10-cent mark on the back of the container.
Please note that some items, such as plain milk containers, wine, and spirit bottles, are not eligible.
Also remember do not crush your cans! Why? When you return your containers for a refund, our machines need to scan the barcode, and crushing cans can make the barcodes unreadable. We wouldn't want you to miss out on your refund.
