The Lighthouse team were thrilled to have joined the celebrations for the grand opening of the latest community mural project in Mooroopna!
Behind the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre - MEAC on Morrell St, what was once a bland brick wall has been transformed into a vibrant palette of colours, all thanks to a generous grant from the Greater Shepparton City Council and a collaboration of community efforts.

MEAC's manager, Jan Phillips, was inspired to apply for the council's Empowering Communities Project Grant after meeting a community member who was enorously proud of their involvement in another Mooroopna mural near Youngs and Co. Real Estate.

Jan enlisted Rachael McAlister, a participant in the Goulburn Murray Community Leadership program, who took on the role of project manager for her Fairley Leadership community project. Local artist Tank of Tank Art joined the project as the principal artist.

Together, they conducted workshops with youth from Lighthouse's Olly program to brainstorm mural ideas. Inspired by Olly participants' suggestions, Tank designed a concept and began outlining the design.

Over two weeks, Olly participants, community members, and Tank joined forces to fill in the gaps and bring this fantastic mural to life.

The Lighthouse team, along with the many individuals and organisations involved gathered on 13 November to celebrate the completion of the project.

What an incredible display of community effort, resulting in a truly stunning outcome!

Congratulations to everyone involved, and a big shout out to the OLLY participants for their amazing contribution!
